"Be Patient, This Gets Amazing": What this segment lacked in punniness, it made up jaw-dropping, cherry-picking amazingness. Last year, the Supreme Court ruled that the EPA must regulate greenhouse gases. The EPA proposed some changes in an e-mail they sent to the White House. The administration then
refused to open the e-mail, leaving the EPA to re-write the policy into something more Bush-friendly. Jon Stewart said (shouted?) it best with that expletive.

"Indecision 2008":
The Daily Show hasn't really mocked Barack Obama quite as heavily as the likes of John McCain or Hillary Clinton. In fact, they have made fun of the media's wild, paranoid speculation about Obama more than Obama himself. It was good to see them pick on him a bit for his rather presumptuous
faux-Presidential seal, which was quickly pulled and called a "one-time" thing. I loved how most of the audience was too nervous to mock their man. "You know... You're allowed to laugh at him." Also, Barack Obama seems to have made a bit of a
flip-flop recently, turning his back on public finance and calling it corrupt, despite showing his support earlier in the race. I hope he flip-flops more if it means seeing John Oliver as Matthew Lesko again.

I'd like to begin this week's offering by adding my thoughts on the untimely death of Tim Russert. I didn't know him personally, so anything I could say about the man would pale in comparison to all the nice things his friends and co-workers have already said.
What I will say is that the irony of Russert dying on Father's Day weekend so soon after writing his book, Big Russ and Me (which chronicled his life with his father as well as his son Luke), is so thick that twenty years from now, it will be hard to believe that it happened the way that it did.
As a guy who rarely watches the news and gets most of my information from The Daily Show, I appreciated Russert's informative and entertaining style of reporting.

"Baracknophobia": The irrational fear of hope is spreading, even among Barack Obama's own people. Obama campaign staffers sent away
two women with head scarves because they didn't want to remind people at the photo op about the rumors of Obama being Muslim. Not as bad as the baby-punching, I must say, and at least he apologized.
"Guantanamo Baywatch": The Supreme Court ruled that prisoners in Guantanamo Bay can contest their detention before a judge. Some folks aren't too happy about this, what with their poor Mexican topiary managers having fewer rights and all. The managers are Mexican, by the way, not the topiaries. Senior Imprisoned Correspondent, Gitmo, stopped by to share his thoughts. Man, Jon Stewart is really no good with puppets. Every voice he does sounds like
South Park's Jennifer "
Taco-Flavored Kisses" Lopez.

"White Stuff on Mars":
New discoveries on Mars make room for coke jokes and groantastic puns.
There Will Be Flood"/"Wet Hot American Bummer" (HA!): Much of the
Midwest is currently underwater, due to storms, failing levies and acts of not-God. Reporters are already looking for the most dramatic ways to demonstrate the severity of the situation, and President Bush is obviously dreading a visit to the disaster area. Correspondents Jason Jones and Wyatt Cenac reported from a flooded scene, just to dig up some of that dated "George Bush doesn't care about black people" stuff. I guess they had to do it now, as mentioning it in the next night's episode may have been a little weird, what with Mike Meyers being the guest and all. I'm waiting for Wyatt to do his own correspondent field report before I decide how I feel about him. I'm kind of liking his perpetual angry-face, though. And did the audience know for what they were applauding? It sounded like more blind, trained seal clapping.

"George Walker Bush: Still President": We've still got seven months before the era of President Bush is officially over. With Barack Obama and John McCain dominating the news, Bush has taken a
little vacay to Europe, because he's pretty much the only American who can afford to do so at this point. What's up with Bush getting super touchy-feely with German Chancellor Angela Merkel?
Has he learned nothing? When he wasn't giving massages or trying the classic "yawn and stretch" on the Chancellor, he attempted to convince the German press that he's not actually a fan of war and it was his own rhetoric's fault for making it seem otherwise.

Barack Obama only recently got the Democratic nomination and car dealerships are already cashing in on his likeness. Apparently Obama love sells Kia Sorentos like Democratic hotcakes. I know I should have been pretty disgusted or annoyed by seeing that commercial, but all I could think about was how that fellow sounded more like Obama than Fred Armisen's impression on
Saturday Night Live. Grumble, grumble.

"Guantanamo Baywatch": Khalid Sheikh Mohammed and four other plotters of 9/11 have appeared at a military tribunal, at which Khalid Sheikh Mohammed represented himself. Somehow, the
Daily Show writers managed to work in an entire "Elmo with a beard equals 'Gitmo'" joke that ran way too long. I'll admit that's the first time that I've ever laughed out loud at someone getting waterboarded, though. The best part was when Jon Stewart used Gitmo to wipe up the waterboard mess right before the commercial break.

Have you heard?! Full episodes of
The Daily Show and
The Colbert Report are now available for streaming! These will be available on Hulu, as well as players on the show's official sites (
The Daily Show and
The Colbert Report). Only the most recent few weeks will be available in full episode format, but the broken up clips that I have been embedding in these posts will be around forever, so that's what I'm going to keep putting in here. This is a fantastic, convenient feature... for the Americans that can access it. Sorry, Canada. Close, but no cigar.

The Daily Show was a little late to the game, finally covering the big news from the previous night. As the entire world already knows by now,
Barack Obama is now the presumptive Democratic nominee. But, in case you haven't heard, Obama's win is super-historic. Bringing Abraham Lincoln (with a small cat glued to his chin) back for his reaction was hilarious, if only to hear him scream about time travel shock. But all Lincoln impressions aside, we can finally celebrate, for this tedious mess is over. Or... is it?

Spoiler alert:
Barack Obama has scored the Democratic nomination. Of course, with
The Daily Show taping around 6:00 in the evening, none of this was addressed in this night's episode. Just, you know, keep that in mind for maximum awkwardness while watching the proceedings.
"
Anarchy Under The UK": After London's mayor banned alcohol, rowdy drunkards without cars took to the Tube and got wasted. Yeah, way to show the man that you guys are responsible enough to handle alcohol. Senior Mass Transit Analyst John Oliver drunkenly explained the beauty of subterranean drinking and then promptly urinated on the spot. Well done, good sir.

I cannot remember the last time
The Daily Show had such a completely random plug for an irrelevant product. Don't get me wrong, I'm more than cool with
the B-52s, but having Fred Schneider come in to jazz up Scott McClellan's audio book was strange. Did the writers come up with this joke and then ask, "Wouldn't it be awesome if we got James Earl Jones to read this? And if not him, the B-52s guy?" or did they have to work around some way to have a B-52s plug in there? Curious. They could have just used their fake R. Kelly to sing it, since that is already a running joke. Also, when Jon Stewart called out for "Schneider", I was expecting Rob Schneider. An appearance from him may have made a little more sense, as he doesn't seem to have anything better to do when he's not doing bit roles for Adam Sandler, anyway.

John McCain wasn't the only one to have his medical history thrown into the spotlight. Barack Obama's doctor analyzed his health and released a one-page report on how
muscular and lean he is. No, it's not nearly as long-winded nor as sexy as McCain's crazy 1,200 page report.
Still-President Bush (I think I will start referring to him as such, as well) paid a visit to the US Air Force Academy's graduation and had a little fun with some soldiers on this celebratory day. I'm surprised there weren't any MySpace poses in this
collection of poses from the day. This would be so much more endearing if there wasn't always that underlying tone of evil in everything he does. I'm just sayin'.

"The Long Flat Seemingly Endless Bataan Death March to the White House": For a little while, Barack Obama looked like he was well on his way to locking the Democratic nomination. Then,
West Virginia happened and Hillary Clinton totally crushed Obama in the state's primary. It may have had something to do with her hard work, her working class base, or because a lot of West Virginians are xenophobic. It's Obama's own fault for being a super-secret Muslim. In other news, the "I don't like the 'Hussein' thing" lady hurt my soul.

No time for lengthy news! Let's get down to business. Terry McAuliffe, Hillary Clinton's campaign chairman, recently appeared on
Meet the Press and made the embarrassing mistake of referring to Tim Russert's father being in Heaven. The problem was that Russert's dad is still alive. Oops. Without realizing it, I had mirrored Jon's nervous, flailing hands during the cringeworthy clip. Man, it's almost as bad as accidentally blurting out "your mom" jokes to people whose mothers are dead.
